Shannon Peters Clinic was a Huge Success

shannon ridingWe were incredibly lucky to get to host Shannon Peters for a two day clinic on March 31st and April 1st of 2018. Shannon’s special expertise is in rider position and biomechanics.

Shannon Peters is a USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Medalist, and three-time National Championship competitor: on Luxor in 2007 when the two were crowned Reserve National Champions Intermediare I; on Flor de Selva in 2009 when they took home 4th place in the Intermediare division; and on Akiko Yamazaki’s Odyssey in 2011 after winning the Grand Prix Special at Del Mar and Burbank CDIs.

Shannon’s special expertise is in rider position and biomechanics. Shannon explains that “What we may not realize is the extent to which the rider’s position affects the execution of movements by the horse. It’s about so much more than just pretty riding – it’s effective riding and preparing our horses to perform their work correctly.”

Spectators watched as she fine-tuned changes in rider position that had a huge impact on the each horse’s movement. She recommended that long-waisted riders, (like Amy) use their abdominal muscles to pull their belly buttons into their core centering their gravity deeper in the saddle and improving the seat. She also suggested maintaining a bend in the elbows and keeping hands low and together because “hands together mean horse together.”
